Who we are
Founded in 1906 by Paddy The Cope, the Templecrone Co-operative Agricultural Society Ltd, (t/a The Cope) has operated in the Rosses area of the Donegal Gealtacht for 104 years. With it’s head office in Dungloe, The Cope is owned by the local community by way of a shareholding with each shareholder owning a maximum of one share. The senior management team, responsible for the day to day running of the society, report to a voluntary committee of twelve local individuals. The Cope is definitively a community business.
What we do
The Cope operates a diverse retail business which includes a builders-providers, clothing and home-ware department, a supermarket and a number of convenience stores. With a turnover of €13m+, The Cope has in excess of 100 locally based employees. The primary objective of the society is to create sustainable employment within the community it operates and has consistently re-invested into the business in order to underpin this ethos.
Supporting the community
The recently launched Cope Community Trust is testament to The Cope’s commitment to the community. The Cope Community Trust is managed by a committee of seven, three of which are community representatives. The aim of the trust is to raise funds for education, healthcare and community based clubs and projects within west Donegal. All Cope employees are given an additional day annual leave known as ‘A Community Day’ which they are to use to raise monies for the trust. In addition to this, The Cope has committed to contributing €50,000 over the next five years to the trust.
